Records pertaining to Catholic Indian missions and schools administered by the Order of St. Benedict. The facilities were located at Fort Yates, North Dakota; Kenel, South Dakota; and other communities on the Standing Rock Reservation among the Dakota Indians; Stephan, South Dakota, on the Crow Creek Reservation among the Dakota Indians; and Elbowoods, North Dakota, on the Fort Berthold Reservation among the Arikara, Hidatsa (Gros Ventre), and Mandan Indians. Included are administrative and financial correspondence, printed materials, and a diary. Notable correspondents include Bishop Martin Marty and Robert G. Valentine, Commissioner of Indian Affairs.
